Senior Time Enrichment

Program and Adult

Continuing Education

Senior Time Enrichment Program (STEPS):
As individuals with developmental disabilities get older, Emmaus Homes can provide a personal activity program that helps them maintain existing skills, learn new skills and support an active lifestyle. The  Senior Time Enrichment Program (STEPS) provides:

  • Medical supervision
  • A state-licensed program
  • Individualized care plans
  • Community activities
  • Group and individual activities
  • Hot, nutritious meals and snacks
  • Transportation (limited radius)

Everyone in STEPS has opportunities to make friends, enjoy current interests and develop new interests through planned activities both at the program facilities and in the community. Staff members also help participants learn about aging and ways of coping with physical and emotional changes in their lives. Staff is always available to support individuals as they enjoy their daily activities, while also providing supervision for those who need help because of physical disabilities or personal challenges.

Providing in-home care to loved ones is very physically and emotionally demanding. The Senior Time Enrichment Program provides supervised activities in a caring environment, while providing time off for caregivers. It is an attractive alternative to a nursing home or home-health care.

STEPS is open Monday through Friday and is closed on major holidays. Full- and part-time participation is available. Fees are determined in accordance with the State of Missouri Medicaid Program reimbursement rate. The program is open to all, regardless of race, color, sex, veteran status, disability or national origin.

Adult Continuing Education (ACE):
Emmaus Homes’ Adult Continuing Education (ACE) program is an adult day habilitation program designed to empower individuals with developmental disabilities to realize their personal goals. ACE is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

Programs are offered during the day and on select evenings and weekends. ACE offers a variety of classes that build independence through personal skills, enhance interpersonal relationships and provide opportunities to explore different leisure activities. The ACE program provides support and training in the areas of:

  • Community mobility and transportation
  • Relationships
  • Leisure time management
  • Decision making and Self-advocacy
  • Communication
  • Community resources and services
  • Nutrition and diet
  • Functional academics
  • Volunteerism
  • Sensory stimulation
  • Positive behavioral supports

ACE also focuses on assisting participants in becoming active members of their communities by joining in senior events or local clubs in their areas of interest.

ACE is open Monday through Friday and is closed on major holidays. Full- and part-time participation is available. Fees are determined in accordance with the State of Missouri Medicaid Program reimbursement rate. The program is open to all, regardless of race, color, sex, veteran status, disability or national origin.

ACE Evenings

ACE Evenings is an evening and weekend recreation program that provides learning opportunities in such areas as fitness, cooking, crafts, cultural studies and relationships. In addition, ACE Evenings sponsors social gatherings, community outings and holiday parties.

ACE Evenings membership is open to adults, age 18 or older, who have a developmental disability and reside in St. Charles County. Individuals need not receive other Emmaus Homes services (such as residential or day habilitation) to participate in ACE Evenings programs.

There is a $10 annual fee. Many activities are free or have a nominal fee. A grant through the Developmental Disabilities Resource Board (DDRB) enables Emmaus Homes to keep costs low so anyone can participate. Staff support and transportation is provided for some events, as stated in activity descriptions in the monthly newsletter.
