Jessica’s Wish | Emmaus Homes

“There’s no such things as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple… with no logical end.” – Scott Adams

In December 2017 and at age 24, Jessica received devastating news that her cancer had returned and that she had only months to live. Upon receiving the news, Jessica asked Emmaus for one special wish, a trip to Florida.
With the help of generous Emmaus employees, Jessica’s wish came true! On Valentine’s Day, Jessica was ecstatic when her team surprised her with some exciting news… Jessica, 2 friends and 2 staff would leave for Florida in 6 days!
The time finally came when Jessica and her friends flew down to the sunshine state. You would never think that traveling to your destination would be part of the fun, but Jessica and her friends traveled like stars in style and had the chance to ride in a limousine to all of their destinations. Jessica and her friends and staff spent their time by enjoying all that Florida has to offer.
During their trip, the group visited the sandy beach, explored the wonders of the ocean at Sea World, went on an epic adventure to Universal Studios, and even walked in Harry’s footsteps in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at the Island of Adventure. Throughout all of their fun they also managed to enjoy the little things by checking out local scenery and dining in at some delicious restaurants like the Hard Rock Cafe.
“The trip was life-changing and it was very special to the ladies,” recalled Terrace Stewart, a Home Manager at Emmaus. “It really did mean a lot to her and I really appreciate everyone who made this trip possible.” We never imagined that our small gifts would grant an end-of-life wish.
Jessica entered her eternal home on May 2, 2018. Jessica was described as a true joy to be around and devoted scholar of the word of God and we are glad she was able to experience the trip of a lifetime with her housemates. When Jessica’s family announced her passing, they started a Facebook Fundraiser for Emmaus. “Our hearts are broken, but our faith strong, knowing our daughter, Jessica, has gone to her heavenly home. Thank you all for your donations!” said Caryl, Jessica’s mother. As of today, they’ve raised over $1,000 in Jessica’s memory.
We are forever grateful that Jessica’s family allowed her to be part of our family and that her life was made better thanks to these gifts from God. Though it is difficult, our faith compels us to set aside our grief and instead rejoice for their reunion with our Heavenly Father. Perhaps our hearts may not feel so empty, knowing that Jessica is joyfully welcoming those at the gates. We cling to the promise of God’s presence with us always. “And I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Psalm 23.
“Thank you so much to all of the Emmaus staff who helped make my trip to Florida happen! My roommates and I had an awesome time!!!” –  Love, Jessica
